Geriatrics is the care of the elderly, a specialty of internal medicine that provides care for elderly people.  Caritas Carney's many geriatricians specialize in helping patients maintain their health and manage chronic health problems that often accompany the aging process.  They aim to maximize their patients' independence, while constantly striving to understand the increased risk of disease and disability associated with growing older.  In addition to providing services to an ever-growing population of seniors, geriatric primary care is provided to residents of community housing sites and nursing home patients, with physicians making home visits as needed.  Services are also provided at several continuing care retirement communities and assisted living facilities in the greater Boston area.
