Caritas Carney Hospital Hosts 20th Annual Foundation Awards Dinner

Brad Selland, MD, Chief of Neurosurgery, received the 2004 Norman A. Welch, MD, Award for Medical Excellence
On Friday, Nov. 5, the 20th Annual Caritas Carney Hospital Foundation Awards Dinner was held at the Quincy Marriott.

Nearly 400 people attended what was the most successful Awards Dinner in the event's history, more than doubling last year's income. Funds raised by the dinner are used for patient care services and help to ensure that Caritas Carney can continue to provide the highest in quality, compassionate health care.

The evening's success was made possible through the support local sponsors, especially Grand Sponsor Bradford A. Selland, Major Sponsors Carney Radiology Associates, Shelley Hoon and John Keith of Canton and John and Margarete McNeice of Canton and Distinguished Sponsors John and Mary Shaughnessy of Milton and Weymouth MRI.

Three individuals and one organization that embody the Caritas Carney Hospital mission were honored this year. Alfred Fontin, pharmacy technician, and E. Jennifer Morris, MSW, LICSW, director of social work and interpreter services, were presented with the President's Award. Bradford A. Selland, MD, received the Norman A. Welch, MD, Award for Medical Excellence, and the Ladies of Charity Auxiliary received the Andrew Carney Humanitarians of the Year Award.

In addition to these awards, the Foundation was pleased to present a check for $1.4 million to the hospital for facility renovations and capital improvements. This was the greatest sum of money ever transferred from the Foundation to the hospital in one year.

Caritas Carney is a community teaching hospital affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine. The hospital's medical staff provides a wide range of services, including primary care medicine and a range of surgical specialties. The hospital has been affiliated with Caritas Christi Health Care since 1997. Caritas Christi is the second largest health care system in New England.
