Luis F. Lobon, MD, Appointed Chief Of Emergency Medicine At Caritas Carney Hospital
Luis F. Lobón, MD, MS, FACEP, has been appointed the new chief of the department of emergency medicine at Caritas Carney Hospital. Dr. Lobón comes to Caritas Carney from Caritas St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center of Boston where he served as associate chief of the department of emergency medicine and director of clinical operations. He also is assistant professor of emergency medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Board-certified in emergency medicine and a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Dr. Lobón has published several articles on emergency medicine in peer-reviewed journals and presented abstracts on emergency medicine at professional meetings of his colleagues. In 2004, Dr. Lobón received the Metropolitan Boston EMS Council President’s Award in recognition of his outstanding dedication and significant contributions to the improvement of EMS within the Region and the Commonwealth.
Before joining Caritas St. Elizabeth’s, he was assistant director of the department of emergency medicine at Saint Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City and assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
In addition, Dr. Lobón has served as director of emergency medicine services, Veterans Administration Medical Center, Manchester, N.H., chief medical officer for relief programs in Kenya and Somalia for Medicens du Monde (Doctors of the World), and attending emergency medicine physician at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, and Valdecilla University Hospital, Santander, Spain, where he also was associate professor of medicine, University of Cantabria Faculty of Medicine, Santander Spain.
His professional memberships include the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians, Metropolitan Boston EMS Council board member, Spanish Society for Emergency Medicine, Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, European Society for Emergency medicine and College of Physicians and Surgeons, Spain.
Dr. Lobón received his doctorate in medicine and surgery from the University of Cantabria Faculty of Medicine and performed his internship and residencies in emergency medicine in New York City at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Beth Israel Medical Center and Elmhurst Hospital Center. He received his master’s degree in health management and finance from New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service.
He is fluent in Spanish and resides in Chestnut Hill with his wife Lisa (Cummings). They have three daughters, Isabel, Fiona and Lucia.
Caritas Carney Hospital is a teaching affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine and a member of Caritas Christi Health Care, the second largest health care system in New England.
