CARNEY HOSPITAL ANNOUNCES NAME CHANGE
Joyce A. Murphy, President of Carney Hospital, announced that the Hospital will officially begin rolling out their name change to Caritas Carney Hospital, including a new logo, on June 1, 2002. "This name change will link us more closely with the Caritas Christi Health Care identity and its commitment to the hospital and the community we serve," says President Murphy.
Caritas Christi Health Care, the second largest health care system in New England, is a comprehensive, integrated health care delivery network providing community-based medicine and tertiary care in eastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Acute care hospitals in the system include: Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center, Brockton; Caritas Norwood Hospital, Norwood; Caritas Carney Hospital, Dorchester; Holy Family Hospital and Medical Center, Methuen; Saint Anne's Hospital, Fall River; and St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Boston. Centers of clinical excellence at system hospitals include women's health, high-risk obstetrics, cardiology, cardiac surgery, urology, cancer care, bone and joint health, behavioral medicine and the neurosciences.
According to President Murphy, the hospital will begin an advertising campaign in June and continue to make the transition to the new name over the next six months. "We want to make it clear that while our name may be changing, we are still the same hospital our patients, employees and physicians have relied on for more than a century.
Caritas Carney Hospital is a 205-bed community teaching hospital. Its medical staff provide a wide range of services, including primary care, a range of surgical specialities and sub-specialities, inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, emergency medicine, critical care, pediatrics, cardiology, neurology and ambulatory surgery. Carney Hospital has been serving Dorchester and surrounding communities since 1863 and became affiliated with Caritas Christi Health Care in 1997.
